    15:48 BST 29 August

He was loaned to Besiktas and then Manchester United in 2022-23 before spending last season with Hoffenheim.

New Burnley boss Scott Parker brought him off the bench in their opening weekend win over Luton for his first appearance for the club in over two years.

Weghorst, who has been capped 39 times, described himself as being "incredibly proud", external to have joined the Amsterdam side.

On new captain Jarrod Bowen, who was named in Lee Carsley's first England squad: "We are very happy for Jarrod. He's in the national team again and he deserves it. On City having a week's break between fixtures: "It happens and we have to be focused. We have to be ready and use these two days to rest a lot to have a line-up full of energy to face the best team in the world.

"The quality of the City players and coach are top, but we are going to go on Saturday with the aim to be able to overcome an unbelievable team."

Lille midfielder Angel Gomes has earned his first senior call-up for England but the 23-year-old has long been on the national team's radar.

As well as being in England's Under-21s with Lee Carsley, the Manchester United academy product was on the long list for Euro 2024 but ended up being cut.

Gomes has been in constant contact with the Football Association, despite playing his football in France, and hasn't felt as if he is out of sight and out of mind because he is overseas.

He joins Tino Livramento, Noni Madueke and Morgan Gibbs-White in earning his first call-up.

    15:17 BST 29 August

    England

Interim boss Lee Carsley on Trent Alexander-Arnold: "For me and this camp especially, he'll be playing in defence as a right-back. I think Trent is like a lot of modern-day full-backs, they have a lot of all-round attributes that turn them into midfielders. He's very confident on the ball and has great range of passing."

  14. 'We've got to ensure we take the game to Villa'published at 15:14 British Summer Time 29 August

    15:14 BST 29 August

Leicester City v Aston Villa (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Leicester City

Leicester City boss Steve Cooper says there are no new fitness concerns ahead of Saturday's game: "[There's] no changes to personnel. You saw Conor Coady come back and get some minutes [against Tranmere Rovers in the Carabao Cup].

"But, on top of the win the other night, we had some guys come in and get good minutes, which is a bonus."

On facing Aston Villa: "You have to have belief in your work and the plan - and then stick to it. We are playing a Champions League team and you have to respect that but, from the Spurs game, we have to see what happens.

"We have got to ensure that we take the game to Villa and believe in our concept and what it can do in the game."

  15. Cannon 'attracting a lot of attention'published at 15:10 British Summer Time 29 August

    15:10 BST 29 August

Leicester City v Aston Villa (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Leicester City

Leicester City boss Steve Cooper confirmed there has been transfer interest in striker Tom Cannon: "He is definitely a good young player that is attracting a lot of attention. So it is possible [he could leave the club]. If he does, it will be a decision the club thinks is right. If he doesn't, I will look forward to working with him."

On whether any of his first-team players are looking for a move away from the club, Cooper said: "If somebody came to me and said they wanted to leave, we would look into that. But that hasn't happened - not one player has said that they want to leave."

  16. El Khannouss to Leicester 'in motion but not completed'published at 15:07 British Summer Time 29 August

    15:07 BST 29 August

Leicester City v Aston Villa (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Leicester City

Leicester City boss Steve Cooper confirmed the Foxes' interest in signing Bilal El Khannouss from Genk: "The process is in motion, there is no point denying that. But it is not completed, so we don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves. If it does go through, we will give you the information then."

On whether there will be any more transfer activity before the deadline: "Maybe. I think that anything is possible, including players going the other way too. We are definitely trying to do some things, as we have been throughout [the transfer window].

"But we are not going to sign players that we don't think will have the contribution we want. The players that we have already brought in, we think they can make the team better and build on the success of last year."

  17. 'International management really suits me'published at 14:59 British Summer Time 29 August

    14:59 BST 29 August

    England

Transfer news live: Chiesa & Lukaku moves completed, Trippier retires from England duty (4)Image source, Getty Images

Interim boss Lee Carsley on the trend of national federations choosing to promote from their under-21s set-up: "It's quite different to go from club football to international football because of the lack of contact time you get with players.

"You also need an understanding of the system in terms of who you can select, which is really helpful.

"I don't think it's a blueprint but international management really suits me and how I want to work. It helps the players too, that you're picking the best players to play in a certain system."

  18. 'Important players are up to speed'published at 14:54 British Summer Time 29 August

    14:54 BST 29 August

    England

Lee Carsley on recalling Harry Maguire and why he chose not to include Kyle Walker: "I think the fact that Kyle hasn't played this season would suggest that Manchester City are phasing him in slowly.

"It's important that players coming in are up to speed and that they're ready to play. I would say 98% of the squad have played a lot of minutes.

"Harry missed out on the Euros squad through injury. I see him and John Stones as real leaders among the centre-backs that we have got, alongside Levi Colwill and Marc Guehi."

  19. 'We have to dominate our opponent'published at 14:49 British Summer Time 29 August

    14:49 BST 29 August

    England

More from interim England manager Lee Carsley on replicating the style of play adopted by his Under-21s side in winning the U21s European Championship in 2023: "We have to dominate our opponent in and out of possession. It's great that we want to be seen as an attacking team, but from last summer's point of view we went through the whole tournament and didn't concede a goal, which is testament to the defenders."
