It’s 5 degrees outside as I write this (yikes) and the sickness board at the girl’s school has about seven different sicknesses listed on it! All those sicknesses listed in bright red marker, lined up in a row, taunting me every time I walk in the door <—— and in case you don’t have a sickness board at your school/daycare, it’s a white board that is posted right by the front door where they write down all the sicknesses that have been reported to school that week, it’s pretty much a hypochondriacs worst nightmare.

If you are a regular to this blog, you know by this post that I am serious about boosting my family’s immunity this year to help us not get sick. And so far, knock-on-wood, we have stayed pretty healthy.

I am going to give big credit to these three different juices for helping us stay healthy.

Filled with immunity builders such as lemon, ginger, turmeric, carrots, oranges and beets these three juices are packed with nutrients. They are also delicious, and my girls will happily drink them every morning along with their breakfast.

Before we get to the recipes, let’s back up a minute and talk about juicers. Whenever I post a picture of our homemade juices on Instagram, I always get the follow up question of which juicer is my favorite.

So I thought I would break it down for you a little more.

To make a really good pressed juice (that your kiddos will actually drink) you will need a juicer. As much as I love my blender for smoothies, it just doesn’t cut it for making a proper juice. Both my blender and my juicer get a prime spot on my counter as I use them both almost daily. The great thing about a nice juicer is that it takes all the pulp out and leaves only the flavor and nutrients of the fruit or vegetable you are pressing in a nice drinkable smooth juice. That means you can press kale, broccoli, beets, spinach and even sweet potatoes and your kids will happily drink their tasty juices.

I love all the Breville Models of juicers because I find they are great machines for a great price and I have now test drove two different models and loved them both equally as much. They also ALL have 4.5 stars with thousands of reviews. You can’t top that!

From left to right – you have the starter model (for under $100!), the middle of the road and what I call the Lexus model of juicers. I just traded in my started model for the Lexus and couldn’t be happier! While spending that much money on a juicer is hard to swallow, a good quality juicer will last you years and will pay off in an instant when your kids are fighting over who gets to push the veggies through the juicer.

If you are new to pressing juice, then welcome. It’s a fun club to be in. But it also takes some getting used to. First, you are going to use way more fruits and vegetables then you think is a normal amount. Just remember, you are pressing out the nutrients and serving them to your little ones! It’s exciting to sit and watch them drink a glass full of green vegetables. Also, juicing can be a little intimidating. I had my juicer on my counter for a full week before I started it up. Don’t panic. It’s supposed to be fun! Plus below you will find my tried and true recipes that my girls (and I) can’t get enough of!

Orangetastic Ginger Juice

Your little one will love the sweet taste of this brightly colored juice that is made with carrots, oranges, apples, ginger and turmeric. While the oranges are filled with vitamin C, a well known immunity builder, the ginger and turmeric are really the stars of the show. Ginger has both antimicrobial and natural antibiotic properties and turmeric is filled with curcumin which makes cells more resistant to infections. Combining them both in this yummy juice will help ward off or ease the symptoms of the common cold or flu.

Green Gorilla Juice

Okay, I’m not entirely sure why we call this Green Gorilla Juice, but I know that out of any juice I make, this one gets requested the most by my girls. And anytime they are willingly going to drink or eat anything green, I am going to make it happen. This tasty juice is also packed with immune boosting nutrients –kale which is packed with nutrients that fight viruses and bacteria, cucumbers are added for hydration, pears help lower inflammation, broccoli stems help ward off numerous infections and lemons are full of vitamin C.

Tropical ABC Juice

This juice is a fun twist to my classic ABC juice (found in Whole Food Baby). ABC juice is probably the best juice you can make your kids – full of Apples, Beets and Carrots, it’s a powerhouse juice that any kid (or adult)will love. In this version, I add in a serving of pineapple chunks for extra vitamin C and for a nice tropical taste. I also add in some elderberry syrup. Elderberry syrup is a great syrup that is proven to ward of illnesses and dramatically shorten the life of any sickness you may get. We started using elderberry syrup this year after a reader mentioned it to me, and I now swear by the stuff. It also tastes amazing, so your kiddos will want to take it each morning.
