Every form of art has an Umbrella and it contains imaginations, expression and ideas. Producers provide trap artists with an umbrella for their rhymes, ad libs, humming, and Auto-Tune gargles. While it is important to praise music artists for their lyrical and vocal skill, it is also important to credit the producers. Without the producer, your favorite song wouldn’t exist. In trap music, producers play a key role. Many Trap artists don’t write before going to the studio, yet they release songs with great lyrical content and flow. They walk into the studio, close their eyes as they listen to the beat and go into the booth and Boom! — A hit song.
Drugs or no drugs, marijuana or no marijuana, the beat is enough inspiration to make a trap artist go off on a song. For example, 2 Chainz doesn’t write, yet he is one of the best trap artists in the industry. A producers beat is enough to inspire a hit song. Although, not all trap songs with good productions get to feature on the Top 100 Billboard chart. Some producers seem to have an almost magical touch – a secret formula that guarantees almost anyone who works with them success. That’s why they are sought after in the industry.
11Buddah Bless
‘Buddah Bless’ might be one of the new names in the industry but his portfolio remains as vibrant as his beat making prowess. Every song he has produced so far has been formidable. Popular for his production tag “Buddah bless this beat”, he has produced top songs for 2 Chainz, Migos and Travis Scott. He has been responsible for the success of 2 Chainz’s ‘Big Amount’ which was released on his mixtape and a year after — as a bonus track on his album. Since then, he has worked on other top projects like: ‘Culture’, ‘Culture II’, and ‘Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho’. Truly, his impact on any record is a blessing.
10DY
DY is a member of the production team ‘808 Mafia’. DY mastered the FL studio software when he was 11. All thanks to the producer ‘Southside’ who discovered him and influenced his career. Ever since, DY (whose real name is Dwan Avery) has worked with some of the best artists in trap music. He also shares production credits with top producers like Southside and Wheezy. His most recent production can be heard on Kodak Black’s ‘Conscience’. Also, DY’s contribution can be felt on ‘Patek Water’ and ‘Three’ from Future and Young Thug’s ‘Super Slimey’ album.
9Pi’erre Bourne
Pi’erre Bourne has collaborated with many artists such as Playboi Carti, NAV, 21 Savage, Young Nudy and Trippie Redd. He’s most known for producing the hit song ‘Magnolia’ by Playboi Carti as well as many tracks off Carti’s debut mixtape ‘Playboi Carti’. His most recent creation for 6ix9ine’s ‘GUMMO’ has peaked at number 12 on the US Billboard Hot 100 since its release. He is known to be a hard worker, who’s always working on beats. That’s evident when he goes live on Instagram.
8WondaGurl
Ebony Oshunrinde, who is professionally known as WondaGurl, is a Canadian producer. WondaGurl might not have popular tags but has delivered quality productions in trap music. Remember ‘Antidote’ from Travis Scott’s debut album? Yes, she did that! Although ‘Antidote’ might have been released in 2015, that was just the beginning for WondaGurl. WondaGurl has worked with several trap artists in the industry, including Lil Uzi Vert, Young Thug and Lil Yachty. She doesn’t have a lot of Produced songs in her discography right now but the quality in her production is always phenomenal. In a digital world, her ability to play the keyboard has given her production a unique sound.
7TM88
TM88, whose real name is Bryan Simmons is a producer who has been in the industry for over a decade. TM88 is the Atlanta-based producer behind Lil Uzi Vert’s hit single ‘XO TOUR Llif3’. He has created unique heavy beats for trap artists like Future, Travis Scott, Young thug, Gucci Mane and 2 Chainz. He has teamed up with Gucci Mane to put together a collection of mixtapes prior to landing a placement on Gucci Mane’s album Trap House 3. TM88 continues to thrive in a competitive field of producers and has been able to attract an Elite level of trap artists. He has also shared co-production credits with the 808 Mafia boss, Southside on a few songs.
6Wheezy
Ever since he produced Young Thug’s ‘Barter 6’ album, wheezy has been on demand by many trap artists – Most especially, Young Thug. Wheezy has produced the best songs in Young Thugs’s discography and has put Thugger on the charts so many times. It seems like Thugger got addicted to Wheezy’s creative touch. The same creative touch that has attracted other artists such as: 21 Savage, Travis Scott, Migos, Kodak Black, Future, and recently – Lil Uzi Vert.
Uzi is about to build on Wheezy’s portfolio in 2018. He announced that he has a project with the producer which only took 12 hours to make. That’s what Wheezy brings to the table.
5Zaytoven
Xavier Dotson, popularly known as Zaytoven, is a producer whose ornately created piano arrangements have become a personal touch on many trap hits from Gucci Mane, Future, Travis Scott, Chief Keef, 21 Savage and Migos. Producing is no easy job, but when you find a producer who creates quality beats in less than 10 minutes, he’s a keeper.
That’s probably why the 38 year old producer continues to add bullet points to his already enriched resumé. He has worked with Gucci Mane extensively, contributing at least one song on every one of his albums, and doing many mixtapes with him. He also plugged in his beats for one of 2017’s best trap albums – ‘Culture’.
4Murda Beatz
Shane Lee Lindstrom, professionally known as Murda Beatz, has had a career run that most beatmaker’s could only dream of at his age. Murda Beatz is one of Migos’s most frequent collaborators and has produced multiple tracks on almost every Quality Control mixtape dating back to late 2013. He is noted for producing hit songs like: MotorSport, Big amount, Butterfly effect, Sweet sweet, Go Off and Eye 2 Eye. Migos have been taking over the charts and Murda Beatz has been the man in the studio behind their success.
3Southside
Southside is the co-founder of Bricksquad’s production team, 808 Mafia. Before he became a production powerhouse, the producer born Joshua Luellen had modest beginnings in Atlanta, Georgia. The 808 Mafia boss is one of the reasons why Atlanta’s trap sound is dominating the music industry right now. He has produced some of the city’s biggest songs that have led to huge mainstream careers. Southside has also been responsible for the success of other producers such as TM88 and DY. He is like The Godfather of trap productions.
2Metro Boomin
Today, people scream “Metro Boomin want some more, nigg*” like it’s part of the song. For many people, hearing “If Young Metro don’t trust you, I’m gon’ shoot you” is enough to make them get excited to listen to that song. However, the 24 year old has more to show for his expertise than some tags. Young Metro has achieved more than other producers have — even the older ones. However, mistaking him for an overnight success would be an oversimplification. Metro Boomin has been climbing rap’s ranks since high school. If there’s one producer any trap artists can trust with a whole project, it’s Metro. When he’s not working on a collaborative album, he’s producing an entire album. Metro Boomin knows how to make a hit. At one point in 2017, Metro Boomin was responsible for producing 10 of the songs on the Hot 100 chart — That’s 10% of the chart! Thanks to him, Kodak Black, Lil Uzi Vert, Migos, and Future have had their highest placements on the charts to date. Between 2016 and 2017 he has been nominated for 4 awards, and he won them all. In a competitive industry, Young Metro is the producer you need on your project.
